Susan is a Speech-Language Pathologist, pediatric feeding therapist, and certified
Talk Yoga™ provider in Charlottesville, VA, with over 20 years of experience in education, learning, development, and communication. She is dedicated to treating the whole child (body, mind, and spirit), educating caregivers, and bridging research and practice. She believes that children learn through play, every child is unique, and yoga paired with traditional therapies can help any child progress to reaching their individual potential. Susan’s experiences as an educator and a parent have shaped her speech and language therapy practice. She was an elementary school teacher in both public and private school settings. She has advanced education in human learning and development and a passion for using evidence-based practices from multiple disciplines to maximize learning outcomes. As a kindergarten teacher, she discovered the power of using breath, movement, and mindfulness to support learning. She is also the parent of a neurodiverse child with ADHD, sensory processing disorder, and anxiety who has benefitted from speech, occupational, and play therapies. Susan has a B.S. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Frostburg State University, an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from George Mason University, a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from The University of Virginia, and a second M.Ed. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Virginia. She is currently completing her Clinical Fellowship as a Speech Language Pathologist at Ivy Rehab for Kids where she provides pediatric speech, language, and feeding therapy to children ranging from toddlers to adolescents.Bio |
